Let's consider 3 different systems: barley crusher/rectangular cooler MLT w/braid; Corona Mill/keggle & false bottom; MM3 2.0 & blichmann 15 gallon button louvered false bottom. Each of those systems will have different flow capacity (which drives husk integrity requirement) and each mill can only get so tight before it shreds the husks to ...
I think the first roller crushes at about .70 and the second at .39 or whatever. It's basically like a double pass thru the mill at once. I have heard that it negates the benefits of conditioning, too. Nope, conditioning still makes a big difference for a 3 roller mill. I actually still double crush mine with a 3 roller mill.
Monster Mill 3 is the end goal. Right now my brew funds are being saved for an All in One setup. I like the Foundry but I'm really trying to hold out for the Brewzilla 4th gen when it's available. Once that's done and I get all the stuffs (brew bag, CASS chiller, various different add on's and nylon insulator sleeve, etc) I'll start saving for ...

I have the advantage of being local to Monster Mill, and was able to buy a S&D unit with 2" stainless rollers & 1/2" drive shaft at a substantial discount. Thanks, Fred. While a 3 roller mill might provide a small benefit, I agree with Jayjay1976. This quality 2-roller mill is all I will ever need.
Unlike the Corona Mill its actually meant for grain with a large hopper. It does the same thing as a Monster mill for 1/3 of the price. It lasts. I've had mine for 5 years and it works like new after 100's and 100's of pounds of grain, 25 pounds at a time. It only costs around $90 if you get it on sale.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a Monster Mill MM3 with 1 1/2" rollers. I am going to motorize it with this 1/2 HP electric motor. I have found this 1 1/2" pulley for the motor side. However, I'm having trouble finding a 1/2" bore 12" to 15" pulley for the mill side. I don't know if my Google-fu is weak today, or what, but I am just striking out.
Monster Mill MM3. Also great. Monster Mill MM3 $281.99. The MM-3 consists of a 6061 aluminum block frame with three 6" long steel rollers riding on SAE 841 oil-impregnated bronze bushings. Go back to step 1. 3b) if the mill starts milling properly *quickly* dump in the rest of the grain. If it chewed thru all the primer grain you have to go back to step 1. One the mill gets going on grain it doesn't jam. Getting to that point can be a pain but it usually takes hold with 3-4 iterations.
Total time to mill 3 lbs with the stoppage – 53.4 seconds according to the clock Old Mill Time Ok, onto the MM-3 – same test. The MM-3 chewed through the grain like a hungry beast and the only surprise I had was the mill really wants the chuck to be tightened down. Had to stop for a moment and retighten the chuck.

I've read many of the threads comparing mills, and think I'll go with a Monster Mill. However I'd consider a Crankenstein if there are good arguments to do so, at similar cost as the MM. I'm debating between the MM-3 with 1.5 rollers, or the MM-2-2, with 2" rollers. I mill about 400 lbs of grain a year and expect to do so for the next decade at ...
If you want to go up a level, then the monster mills seem to work pretty well. I have one (a 3-roller). Reply. CodeSection Well-Known Member. Joined Feb 4, 2018 Messages 1,655 Reaction score 818. Monster mill 3 is back ordered where I shop & I don't want to go back to my corona at this point. Need something soonish. My barely crusher gave me a lot of grief today. I reversed the rollers to get more use out of it, but still stops working, drill needs to be reversed to re engage etc. About 1,000# grain though it, rollers visibly worn.

I have a monster mill M3 which is made in the us, perhaps the raw stock comes from china, and they do the machining, idk. Anyway, I didn't pay the extra cost to get stainless rollers and it has never rusted. It lives in my garage and there is no shortage if humidity in the PNW. Reply. augiedoggy Well-Known Member. My horror story I had a 1.0 3fl carbide EM from monster mill and I was machining a 2.0 dia hole literally taking .01 off the walls with more than adequate coolant flush and one of the flutes chipped about 3/4 of the way through a 40pc. job. In my book a 1.0 EM should be able to withstand more than just a finish pass.
So, after waiting for a long time to get my AAW motor, I finally was able to finish my new grain mill project using the Monster Mill MM2-Pro with hardened rollers and 1/2" keyed shaft mated to the AAW motor with Lovejoy couplers. I used a DPDT switch to allow reverse direction in case I ever need it.
Lastly, you should lubricate the roller bushings. In order to access them, you need to separate the rollers from the end housings. The whole unit is held together by two bolts in the base. Flip the mill over and loosen these bolts with a wrench. Once the bolts are removed, the rollers should easily separate from the mill ends.

No intact kernels at all. My 2nd brew thought I completely disassembled my monster mill 3, cleaned it, reassembled and set the rollers to a huge gap of .050. I didn't want to risk another stuck mash and horrible crush. Unfortunately, even at the big of a gap, it still looked mostly the same. ... Reset your mill to the factory gap as stated in ...
I had a 3 roller crankandstein, traded it to a buddy since I won a 3 roller monster mill. There wasn't much difference between the 2 other than I had a nicer hopper on the MM3. Reply. P. PSUSkier Member. Joined Jun 3, 2010 Messages 17 Reaction score 0 Location NC. Feb 14, 2012 #4

Just checked monster mills site myself. The standard monster mill 3 mills use standard 1144 alloy steel thats NOT heat treated and they do not recommend using thier regular sub $300 mills for high volume or commercial use like Ive been using the kegco for myself for the last year. Here is a quote from monster mills website..
Jun 25, 2014. Replies: 7. I purchased a Monster Mill just over a year ago, model MM-2 with two 1.5" x 6" long rollers and the 1/2" diameter shaft upgrade. Monster Brewing Hardware makes a variety of 2-roller and 3-roller models, with 1.5" and 2" diameter rollers. The rollers are available in standard 1144 steel, or 303 stainless steel.
Monster Mill MM3 – $239.99. Like the Monster Mill MM-2, the Monster Mill MM-3 is an exceptionally high-quality mill that features a solidly-built design consisting of a 6061 aluminum bock frame, but adds an extra roller for a total of three 6" long 1.5" hardened steel rollers, and SAE 841 oil impregnated bronze bushings.

The 3-roller mill has several advantages and few disadvantages. It has greater output than a 2-roller model running at the same RPM. It provides less husk damage, which aids in sparging. Also, the 3-roller mill more fully separates the starch from the husk, while providing superior grain feed, even with wheat.
